He returned her embrace, burying his face in her hair for a moment, before pulling his head back, just a bit, to look at her with a little smile. "You know I'd never object to your company, but if you were there all that time, you'd have to be like me and I wouldn't want that for you." He smoothed his hand over her hair. "Anyway, I had some good decades and some bad decades. I found a family for myself, in the end. Then I found him and I made peace with myself. And with him.
